Chingford Cricket Club Won 156 runs
Match report
Winning the toss and batting Chingford got off to a good start as James Hill and Ben Macgregor put on 55 for the first wicket when the latter departed for 19 attempting an ambitious sweep off the bowling of Tim Wade and top edging to the keeper. Hill carried the score forward to 82 when he was clean bowled by Dixon for a well made 51. The introduction of the spinners was causing difficulties and slowed the run rate significantly and with the capture of the wickets of Nick Shawyer (unfortunately run out for 13) and Matt O Sullivan for 10 Westcliff must have thought they were in the box seats with Chingford now 98for4 after 30 overs. Shaun McMurray and Billy Rhone after beginning circumspectly wrested the initiative from the homesters with a swashbuckling partnership of 118 in just 16 overs with McMurray scoring an unblemished 68 and The Burger remaining undefeated on 66 after Ryan Harris and Kerry Marriott had helped him to put on a further 40 runs in the remaining 4 overs. The target of 257 would not normally be unachievable at Westcliff but an excellent bowling by Kerry Marriott who bowled a straight 10 over spell conceding just 12 runs whilst picking up 2 wickets and valuable support from Nick Shawyer put the homesters under so much pressure that the spinners were able to pick the rest of the wickets as the Westcliff batsmen chased an impossible target. They were finally bowled out for 100 with Angelo Bass taking 3 for 10, Paul Shawyer collecting 3 victims behind the stumps and Ben MacGregor taking 3 outfield catches.
