Chingford Cricket Club Sun B v Kenton on Sun 11 Sep 2005 at 1230
Chingford Cricket Club Won 24 runs

Match report After losing the toss and being stuck into bat, we knew how much we need to win this game and we managed to stick enough runs on the board for them to try and get, with a very young and mature side, full of all-rounders, we got off to a bit of a slow start with Marc Fletcher scoring 11 runs off the first 16 overs with the score on 34 before being bowled with one that jagged back into him. Myles Joyce got going after Marc Fletcher's dismal adding an additional 34 to the in 7 overs to accelerate the run rate slightly. Myles Joce was dropped on the boundary on 45 with the ball hitting the fence giving him 4, the fielder saving 2 extra runs and then Myles Joyce got caught behind for 49 with the score on 68 after 23 overs. Nasser Rashid and Michael Fernandopulle built a partnership of 60, before Nasser Rashid was bowled for 25 with 9 overs remaining. The captain had promoted David Joslin to 5 with a licence to dispatch, which he did off his second delivery smashing the ball through the covers for 4 off a 14 year old who's voice hadn't broken. David Joslin took a liking to this bowler and hit him for another 4 through mid-on. David Joslin raced away to 36 not out with Michael Fernandopulle also unbeaten on 48. That left us with 190 on the board, a good score and that wicket and the weather.

We reconvened after with Paul Canham subbing for Marc Fletcher after the latter injuried his calf whilst batting. Paul Canham's catching ability was well needed in the first over getting involved in his 12th man role taking the catch for the first wicket off Chris Baldock's lively bowling. Two quality opening spells of bowling from Chris Baldock (first game in the B XI and last game of the season) and the unlikely, new found talents of David Joslin, both used the pitch to their advance with a bit of extra bounce and a lot of movement in the air and off the pitch, with two wickets a piece. Two quality run-outs in the middle of the innings from Stephen Thorne and Peter Shawyer opened the game up as their top scorer was the other batter involved in both dismals. Peter Shawyer's two spells with key wickets in each spell getting rid of their useful left hander with a quality stumping from Graem Peters in his first spell and in his next removing their top scorer with an absolute jaffa that jagged back in fierciously to hit middle stump. The captain, Stephen Thorne, finished it off in style, getting rid of the number 9 with a full toss, caught at mid-wicket by Michael Fernandopulle and then grabbing the limelight capturing the last wicket, another great stumping from Graem Peters to win us the match, and entitle us to stay up in the Preimership for another season.
