Chingford Cricket Club Weekday XI v Wormcasts on Mon 11 Jul 2005 at 1400
Match was Drawn

Match report For the third year in succession, a boring draw was played out between these two sides. The Chingford Blacksocks chose to bowl first upon winning the toss.
A makeshift medium pace pairing of Rhone and MacGregor took the new ball. However, neither were able to move the ball or remove the batsmen. Keeper Paul Shawyer was forced at one stage to stand up to the stumps, so lacking in pace were the opening pair. Eventually they made way for a serious new ball bowler in Richie Coulson, who swung the ball and clean bowled both opening batsmen.
With the Wormcast batting struggling to get on top, the Blacksocks opened up the game by bowling a variety of bowlers, three of which were bowling their first balls of the summer. Attacking fields were maintained to provide the Wormcasts with the chance of getting full value from the shots that they played. With the Wormcasts approaching 250, skipper Peters decided to bring the Wormcasts innings to a close by bringing himself on to bowl the 56th over, just before 5.20pm. The declaration was hurriedly made.
The Blacksocks were playing for a player of the match prize, with the award going to the player who accrued the highest number of 'Blakeypoints'. 'Blakeypoints' could be collected from scoring runs off Blakey's bowling, getting Blakey out or causing him to miss field or chase the ball. The decision of Blakey not to bat or bowl himself meant that blakeypoints could only be picked up from his fielding. 10 points were available for inducing a Blakey dropped or missed catch and 4 points were available each time for making Blakey miss field or chase the ball. David Joslin drove a ball past Blakey at mid on, forcing the Wormcasts skipper to turn and chase the ball to the boundary. However, these 4 Blakey points were immediately deducted, when Joslin, trying to repeat the feat next over, holed out to Blakey at mid off. Paul Shawyer was well ahead on the Blakeometer, collecting 16 Blakey fielding points. Richard MacGregor, keen to catch up with Shawyer, cleverley extracted two missed catches from Blakey to move to 24 blakeypoints, a lead that was to prove unassailable. Thus MacGregor won the Blacksocks player of the match award - a pair of monogrammed commerorative black socks.
With Shawyer and MacGregor out, the responsibility of ensuring a close finish fell on Rhone. With 3 runs required from the last 3 balls (of the 39th over) Rhone pushed a single. Adam Campbell was thus given the opportunity of determining the result of the match and he chose, sportingly, to take just one run off the final ball to leave the scores even.
