Chingford Cricket Club Sat 3rd v Saffron Walden on Sat 15 May 2004 at
Chingford Cricket Club Won 5 wickets

Match report The league season opened without the presence of the captain, Paul Hart. Vice-Captain Stephen Thorne led the side against a weak opposition. They lost early wickets, but their skipper who held us up for a while, was bowled around his legs. He started to walk off but their umpire decided that he thought the ball had either come off keeper Peters pads or Peters had knocked a bail off himself. Had Paul Hart been around, he would have told their skipper to leave in no uncertain terms. Steve Hart managed to drop a catch at deep square leg, the ball going for six. In missing the catch, he badly bruised his fingers and was not able to bat. Blakey was dissapointed that he had to share the black socks with Harborne.
Although we never looked like losing, there was a feeling that the 5 wicket win was not as convincing as it might have been. Even so, it was gratifying to start the league season with a win.
