Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sun Eve v Tennyson A on Sun 26 Feb 2006 at 17:00
Chingford Cricket Club Won 65 runs

Match report Chingford turned in their best performance in the Premiership this season as the selectors' youth policy got it spot on

Chingford were asked to bat first and Ben Mac Gregor was dismissed the ball after receiving some advice from his father early on. Greg Hales got the score moving with a quickfire 25 to leave Thorpe at No 3 to face the nightmare of an indoor batting session with the wall hitting, non running "No" Tarrant, who had earlier elected for the no 4 slot "as I always get runs there". He got 12, that might be his view of what runs mean, but it's not mine! Thorpe (19) made the classic mistake of attempting a third consecutive Premiership 3 and was inevitably run out. Maestro Tarrant soon followed and with Blake going for 2 and the returning Hales for 26, it was left to Big Mac to steer us through the final 9 balls. He smote a couple of sixes to return a useful 18 not out and crucially steered us to 93-5, a defendable total but below the going rate for the Premiership.

During the half time interval Tarrant enquired with the Coaching staff as to whether he was the man to keep wicket. Given none of the other five had kept wicket for Chingford before, I don't know if he said that because he thought Big Mac had a hidden talent we'd never seen before in the last 30 years.

So Hales took the new ball and the first over went for 9 with Tennyson looking confident. Enter Big Mac , starting with an over for 1. Two LBWs followed and then a relay run out and a catch off the wall by Blake and some more top bowling from McGregor and Hales, Tennyson were 20-4. Ben soon picked up the fifth wicket and it took Mike Blake two balls to capture the final wicket to leave Tennyson 28 all out.
