Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sat B v Woodford Green on Sat 22 Oct 2005 at 9.45
Chingford Cricket Club Won 35 runs
Match report
After our first match victory against Chingford C we next played relegated Woodford Green, who were playing their first game of the season and their first match at this venue for more than 5 years. Peter Shawyer replaced Paul Shawyer who plays for the As and Billy Rhone dropped down from the As to play instead of Ben MacGregor who also plays for the As.
Chingford won the toss and batted. Peters and O'Sullivan continued their successful opening partnership, scoring at more than 10 runs an over. Chingford were well placed at 35-0 after 3 overs but then an over from their left armer changed the innings.; O'Sullivan and Shawyer were bowled by consequetive deliveries. 2 overs later, Rhone and Thorne fell in quick succession, leaving Peters and MacGregor the task of batting through the last 6 overs. Peters having scored quickly early on, struggled his way to 25 before being Run Out. Fortunately MacGregor batted to the end and pushed Chingford up to a more or less respectable total.
Woodford Green's first 2 batters set off at a good rate and 25 were on the board after 2 overs. O'Sullivan and Thorne pegged them back before dismissing each of them. MacGregor and Shawyer came on against the new batters and never allowed them to settle. Some cool fielding under pressure rewarded Chingford with 3 run outs, 2 going to O'Sullivan. The Woodford Green situation deteriorated quickly and they did not have anyone capable of batting long enough to get them near our total.
Even though this was on paper an easier win than the Chingford C game, we were in danger of being bowled out for 50 or 60 a position from which we should have lost. All four bowlers were on top of their game today, demonstrating that if enough pressure can be put on the opposition batting, it will crack.
As the only side to have had 2 wins out of 2, Chingford B are now a clear at the top of the table with 20 points.
