Match report After victory the week before, Chingford found themselves joint 1st and playing in Walthamstow B, a side just one point behind them. With no Nick Shawyer around, Andy Perrin was playing his first game of the season and his first match since season 2003-4.
Losing the toss and with a batting line up that was not the strongest, the pressure was on O'Sullivan and Peters to get a good start. Both nurdled and ran their way through the opening overs without any major incident. Both reached their 25s inside the first 6 overs and the platform had been set for a total in excess of 110. Lyon and O'Reilly sustained the momentum for a further 2 overs and Chingford were handily placed after 8 overs at 79-0. Then it started to go wrong. Unable to score, Lyon and O'Reilly tried to hit their way out of trouble but both were caught. Two successive wicket maidens and the dismissal of MacGregor had set Chingford back to 79-3 off 10 overs. However, Perrin sacrificed his wicket an Peters and O'Sullivan were back in to lift the scoring rate at the end to a satisfactory score of 102.
O'Reilly had a good first over, but Perrin didn't. He bowled 3 wides and a no ball but before the over was up had found a straight ball to clean bowl the 1st batter. In his second over Peters missed a knick before catching another and with a run out coming from an O'Sullivan direct throw, Walthamstow were 35-3 after 4 overs. The remaining opener was still in and he tried to keep the scoreboard ticking. Lyon replaced O'Reilly and importantly got the batting side behind the clock and another run out came. Over no 8 was MacGregor's first and in it he removed the opener via a Peters stumping, without conceding a run. The final wicket came quickly and victory was achieved by a reasonable margin.
Chingford B are now clear at the top of the table and favourites to be promoted. However, if we lose our last game against Ford Sports, we can still miss out.
