LEAGUE-leaders Woodford Wells slipped off top spot after being forced to hold out for a draw against fellow high-flyers Chingford in this derby game at Forest Side.
Having been asked to open the batting the hosts quickly found themselves a wicket down when opener James Hill was caught by Rob Leiper off the bowling of Tom Watkins on two.
Replacement Matt O'Sullivan then joined Ben McGreggor at the crease and the pair produced a partnership of 47 before the former was bowled by Watkins while on 17. Brian Pietersen's stay at the crease was also short-lived as he headed back to the club house after scoring just six runs to leave Chingford on 62-3.
Niraj Odedra then joined up with McGreggor and the pair plundered 55 runs between them, before the latter was finally removed, stumped by wicket keeper James Swash following a fine innings of 58.
Odedra continued to rattle off the runs with Macca Meade in a partnership of 40, which was ended by the former being stumped by the alert Swash for 39.
Meade (23) went ten runs later to leave the Forest Siders on 159-6 and looking in a spot of danger. But while Sam Kirnon found himself run out for 15, Shaun McMurray and Angelo Bass with undefeated respective scores of 22 and 26 pushed the hosts on to 218-7 at the close of their 52-over innings.
Watkins (2-37) led the Wells bowling figures while Rob Smith (2-52) also picked up a brace of wickets.
Swash and Knut Willmott looked to be getting the visitors' reply off to a steady start, but the latter was soon trapped LBW by Bass while on 12 to leave Wells on 16-1.
Now joined by Rob Leiper, fellow opener Swash went on to produce a fine knock of 48 before being run out, as the pair rattled off a partnership of 82 although Wells looked to be struggling to come up with the required run rate. Leiper (50) and Jarron Semper (26) did their best to improve that situation with a partnership of 46 but the pair would along with Ali Bulli be removed in quick succession as the Monkhams Lane outfit went from 144-3 to 144-5.
The wickets continued to fall at an alarming rate towards the end of the innings as Wells lost a further two batsmen with only 12 more runs added to their total.
But in the end the visitors had done enough to earn a share of the spoils.
Bass (4-31) enjoyed a great afternoon with the ball, while Odedra picked up the only other two wickets.
