CHINGFORD sent rivals Fives and Heronians closer to relegation and cemented their position at the top of the table with a 32 run away victory on Saturday.

The visitors batted first and amassed a daunting 279-5 in their allocated overs, setting an unlikely target for struggling Fives, despite the best efforts of Chris White (3-70).

Robert Rotsey got the chase off to a good start before he was caught for 51 runs, and captain Terry Ballard hit 33 to give their side a sniff.

However, too many batsmen couldn't push on after promising starts and only Rob McKay (51), batting at number ten put up any further resistance, leaving Fives 32 runs adrift of the target.

It wasn't enough to defeat the table-toppers as they fell short, finishing on 247.
