Match report The pitch was a touch moist after some heavy rain the day before. The Chingford captain, Michael Blake was also a touch moist, at the prospect of bagging a bunch of Old Victorian Blacksocks. Chingford opening bowler Marc Fletcher, prior to going away on holiday was sporting a pair of blacksocks and proceeded to bowl like someone accustomed to wearing them. After a reasonable opening, the batters were seperated by a Peters slip catch (well he started from there) off Canham. Thorne and MacGregor bowling at the second wicket pair was the competitive highlight of the match. When Thorne got one through the No3's defences and MacGregor removed the opener after he had made 50, the pair were both taken off. Campbell junior, the returning Fletcher and Taylor took turns at bowling at the lower order. A Campbell double act was a square leg umpires decision away from success. Blake held himself back long enough to bowl at numbers 10 and 11. The last wicket pair included Tony Barker, comfortably the younger of the two batters. Blake came in for a bit of punishment and it seemed as if the Old Vics innings would be ended by an declaration rather than a wicket. Finally the last wicket came with Blakey claiming his wicket, caught at deep extra cover.
Old Vics wasted no time and opened the bowling with Tony Barker. Chasing 216 for victory, it was possible, if the two Robs planned it well, for them to both end up with 100s. However both perished short of their 50s in fairly quick succession. Taylor and Peters, needing to score not much more than 5 an over, took singles to deep set fields and both ensured they reached their 50s with time to spare. With the game all but won, Campbell hit a couple of lusty blows and MacGregor just failed to win the match with a six.
