Chingford Cricket Club Weekday XI v Wormcasts on Mon 10 Jul 2006 at 2.00
Chingford Cricket Club Lost 5 runs

Match report Richard MacGregor led the side against Mike Blake's Wormcasts featuring a number of ex-Chingford players as usual. Billy Rhone, having failed in this fixture last season, to demonstrate that he could bowl as quickly with the new ball as Ben MacGregor was this year paired with Matt O'Sullivan. Downhill and with the wind behind him he built up a fair momentum and managed to stay on longer than his opening partner. Both had second spells but by then O'Sullivan had given up on his pace bowling and reverted without success to his leggies. The bowling changes came with the expected regularity and Richard MacGregor, keen not to let Stephen Thorne get too far ahead in the leading wicket takers, pulled him out of the attack. The act was as much an effort to open up a game in which the Wormcasts were sadly falling behind a decent scoring rate aswell as losing too many wickets. Terry Piper settled in to bowl some nicely flighted deliveries and deserved at least one wicket for his efforts. With the light drizzle about becoming heavier, the players came off for ten minutes to join Umpire Roger Behling who had led an unsuccessful earlier effort to do same. An early tea was taken and afterwards Piper was replaced by Graem Peters who claimed his first ever Chingford wicket with his first delivery. Tempting the batsman to score at a quicker rate was proving difficult. The Wormcasts declaration came at 6pm, leaving Chingford about 35 overs at about a rate of 7 an over to win.
The Young opening batting pair got off to a comfortable start but both got out at the wrong time. In worsening batting condidtions and poor light, Chingford made an excellent job of the run chase. Paul Hart and Billy Rhone both foolishly ran themselves out and tried to blame Peters for their mistake. MacGregor senior led the final assault that saw hom needing to score 12 runs off the last two balls to win the game. Tony Barker was bowling and Wormcasts only needed one wicket. The first ball was despatched for six but in trying to hit the last ball for six, MacGregor toppled over and Grip Norgate completed the match with a stumping.
