Chingford Cricket Club Weekday XI v Shaun McMurray's XI on Tue 11 Jul 2006 at 11:30
Chingford Cricket Club Won 2 wickets
Match report
Sam Kirnon led Chingford in the field as a strong McMurray side took advantage of an excellent batting strip and punished the new ball, regardless of the pace in which it was bowled. Kirnon turned his arm over but on one occasion, not well enough to direct the ball lower than the batters gloves. Fortunatly the batter was not badly hurt from the beamer but Sam's confidence was lowered to the extent that he did not feel able to finish the over. Memories of last year's fixture in which Shaun's visitors ran up 300 plus came flooding back and Odedra and MacGregor were pressed into service for long spells in an effort to keep the total to a manageable size. Even though 300 was passed, the scoring rate was so quick that Chingford had the opportuinity of challenging it if they got a good start.
Brian Pieterson and Sanjay Sharma had 15 overs to bat before tea and put on 100 together, both reaching their 50s. Pieterson struck the ball with power and sharma batted in the unorthodox style that Chingford have witnessed before. Their partnership was perhaps the cricketing high-point of the week. Pieterson left for the day at tea time and Sharma was out soon after. McMurray did well to keep the Chingford batters interested and when MacGregor and Odedra were going together, Chingford looked as though they might cruise to victory. When both were out, a win looked unlikely, but some clean hitting from Kirnon and some astute nurdling from Thorne enable Chingford to win the came at the death.
All in all, an excellent days cricket played under a hot sun in front of a well lubricated bunch of spectators.Graem Peters
