Chingford Cricket Club Sun B v Harrow on Sun 10 Sep 2006 at 12:30
Chingford Cricket Club Won 7 wickets

Match report A Hockey injury to Majid Azam's groin picked up the day before, forced him out of the side and Blakey scraped around and managed to come up with Richard Alston on the Sunday morning. Thus for our last league match of the season against title rivals, Harrow we fielded a side with just 2 players under the age of 30. To demonstrate the seriousness of the occasion; Nasser could be seen changed into his whites a good 20 minutes before the scheduled start and Myles Joyce and Martin Steel could be observed doing a lap of the ground to warm up before the start. (However, one suspects that Steely's lap was as much to sober him up). Blakey's plans were further wrecked when he lost the toss and we had to bowl first. However, this probably helped us as it enabled us to bat second knowing how many wickets we needed to keep intact. Had Harrow batted the full 45 overs and scored 50 for no wicket, there would have been no hope of us winning. Fortunately for us they came to win the game. Despite some loose bowling Steely was first to strike with a good straight ball that hit middle. He was replaced by Stephen Thorne who immediatly settled into a good line and length. After a wayward start, Steve Piper settled into his rythym and it took a lot of effort from the Harrow batsmen just to keep him out, let alone score off him. The Piper persistance paid off and he started to work his way though the top order. After picking up 2 wickets, Harrow were struggling at 70 odd for 3. Rather than holding back a couple of overs of Piper for the end, Blakey decided to bowl him right through, hoping that he could make another breakthrough, which he did. With Richard MacGregor now entering the fray we had spin at both ends - and I mean SPIN at both ends, Fluffy turned one to get his first wicket played on and Harrow were soon 90 odd for 6. Thorny bowled an absolute peach to pick up the seventh wicket, bowled, to make it 120-7 which made up for Fluffy not getting an lbw the over before. Harrow batted all the way down and an 8th wicket partnership was finally broken when the chap who scored the 50 hit Thorny straight down Trippy's long off throat. Expecting the blacksocks to come in, Blakey was now on to bowl himself after Thorny had completed his excellent spell. However, the socks were white but some fortuitous stumpings from Peters ended the innings.
