Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sat C v Buckhurst Hill A on Sat 14 Oct 2006 at 8.40
Chingford Cricket Club Lost 82 runs

Match report The C team season started with a game against promoted Buckhurst Hill A. Mark Campbell won the toss and chose to bowl first. Paul Hart dropped neatly into a full toss length, surprising the opening pair. Nasser Rashid had one of his better bowling days, only giving away one no ball and one wide. The wide was however, a wicket taking delivery with Graem Peters taking a leg side stumping. It was his second stumping of the innings (both off Rashid) which had placed us in a good position. Buckhurst Hill managed to run well between the wickets, ensuring that they scored at a reasonable rate of 9 an over. Both the third wicket pair reached 25, despite struggles against Alfie Taylor's leg spin. Richard MacGregor bowled in the latter half of the innings and was difficult to score off. The two retirees returned to bat for the last two overs and got them up to a good score.
The Chingford reply got off to an excellent start with Peters taking a three off the first ball. However, two balls later he called Taylor for a sharp run and was run out. In at No3, Rashid, still in the first over had a mix up with Taylor leaving the latter stranded mid-pitch. Campbell was in for the second over of the innings and managed to drag a delivery into his stumps. In quick succession, MacGregor and Hart both knicked deliveries to the keeper and Chingford were 10-5. This left Hart at the crease to run for Rashid. Rashid struggled to find his touch with the bat but at least managed to stay at the crease. However, with 4 overs still to bat, Rashid turned down the chance to run a three, much to the surprise of Hart who ended up in much the same segment of the pitch that Taylor had 7 overs earlier.
Sometimes you have days when nothing goes for you and this was one. A victory target of 119 was within this side's reach but probably not if it was going to give the opposition two wickets in the first over. When two batters then go and knick balls, you can't help but think back to their innings when their batters were regularly playing and missing. Although the margin of victory flattered them, Buckhurst Hill look to be a side who will compete reasonably well in this division. If we can put days like this behind us, hopefully so will we.
