Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sat B v Harold Wood on Sat 03 Feb 2007 at 11.00
Chingford Cricket Club Lost 35 runs

Match report Stephen Thorne was caught out by the fixture list and hastily got 5 players together at the last minute. With the consent of Harold Wood and the Umpires, Graem Peters played as a substitute fielder. Fielding first, all of Chingford's seamers found that the ball was swinging uncontrollably for them. As a result, a lot of good deliveries ended up as wides. Fletcher was eventually able to make the adjustment to bowl some useful deliveries, two of which earning him his wickets, bowled and lbw. With Rhone struggling, Shawyer was brought on early and also picked up a wicket, thanks to a Peters stumping. This brought their No 5 out to join the remaining opener. The opener reached his 25 and was replaced by a No 6 looking to ensure he did not hang about. Both batters now able to bat with the insurance of a retiree took a likeing to Thorne. Having been in a position of relative control, Chingford were put under the cosh. The No 5 after a slow start, retired, allowing the No 1 to return and blast his way to 50 and retirement again. A late wicket was scant concellation as Harold Wood ran riot at the end to post a formidable score.
This is the second match running that the B team have faced a challenge of making a score of more than 150. This time, we had only 5 batters and a solid start was necessary. After his first 25 from No 5 last match, Fletcher was promoted to open ahead of Patel. Fletched and Shawyer provided the solid start but both struggled to score at a quick enough rate. Both eventually retired but had left an asking rate that needed explosive performances from Patel and Rhone. Rhone, still searching for form at this venue, was run out unfortunatly without facing a ball. Patel knicked one to the keeper and any chance we had of winning or reaching 136 to secure a losing bonus point, disappeared. Thorne continued to bat in the style he showed last week and was joined by Fletcher for the remaining overs. We had managed 20 runs more than last week in our chase, but had still won no points.
Although Harold Wood were just below us in the table, they are a strong side and we performed with credit. Fletcher's performance with the bat was encouraging but wins my Player of the Match award more for his bowling.
Other results today were good for the Bs as bottom club Newham B beat fellow strugglers Loughton. This leaves both these clubs below the rest of the struggling group that include the Bs. The Bs still have to play Loughton, which looks like being a key game to ensure we avoid relegation.
