Match report Last season's skipper, Greg Hales had a delayed start to the season. Having missed the warm-up match and crying off due to work for the first league fixture, he was due to make his first appearance for this game. This he managed four overs into the game, thanks to problems with the local traffic. Graem Peters sub-fielded until he arrived and held onto a catch that was the first wicket to fall. The second wicket was a stumping for Paul Shawyer, both wickets falling to Marc Fletcher. Rob Whitfield also bowled well at the beginning. One of their openers made it to 25 and whilst he was resting the rest of the College's batting looked out of their depth. This may be underplaying the excellent swing bowling of Hales backed up by some tight fielding, Shawyer getting a second stumping. 105-5 was probably more than they should have got, but never likely to test us if we got a good start. Matt O'Sullivan, already in the runs this season, demonstrated why he is such a good indoor batter. With Shawyer batting in the same way, and the pair running well between the wickets, the result was never in doubt. Without playing a shot in anger, 64 were taken from the first 4 overs. O'Sullivan retired first and Shawyer soon after, making way for the middle order to finish things off. After 6 overs, we were 85-0, slowing down a little as Whitfield and Ben MacGregor tried to find their feet. Whitfield is still learning the game and MacGregor is trying to remember it. The former is still trying one or two outdoor shots but he will make a lot of runs this season, and on this performance, get good bowling exposure denied to him outdoors. The skipper will not worry too much about his form with bat or ball if his team can win as comfortably as this.
