Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sat A v Wanstead B on Sat 18 Nov 2006 at 9.55
Chingford Cricket Club Lost 47 runs

Match report Without McMurray in the side again, Fletcher kept his place and opened the bowling with a tidy line and length, bowling one opener in his first over. Whitfield bowled second against his former club mates. Wanstead B were fielding a side with three A team regulars so it was not too far short of A team strength. We can't criticise this as it is within the rules and besides, we had two regular A team players playing in our Bs match earlier. However, it does seem extraordinary that a club as big and successful as Wanstead can not find enough players to field more than 2 indoor sides. Back to the match, and two of those Wanstead A teamers (Chambers and Westfield) were giving a demonstration in sensible indoor batting, taking their 3s and hitting the odd 4. Both reached 25 and retired. However, the big difference was in the batting of their No4 and 5 who kept this momentum going, with the No4 reaching 25 also. 2 wickets for Chingford merely brought back the first two retirees who finished off the innings with a flourish. There was nothing much wrong with our bowling apart from Whitfield drifting down the leg a side a few times too many and Hales completely losing the plot in his third over.
The Chingford opening pair looked comfortable and scored 35 off the first 3 overs, well up with the asking rate. However, just when he looked like reaching 25, O'Sullivan was stumped down the leg-side. Whitfield looked comfortable also but the scoring rate started to drop and he was given lbw attempting a paddle. MacGregor for the second time in the morning, came and went quickly, collecting just 3 runs in two innings. Hales hoping to launch into the spinner was also stumped, leaving fletcher to join Shawyer with the task of batting the overs and seeing how many could be compiled. Had Hales come off, Chingford might have got back into the game. Both the final pair found the bowlers taxing and neither tried to launch an unlikely charge. In contrast to MacGregor, Shawyer collected 56 runs for his morning's work.
