Chingford Cricket Club Indoor Sat A v Wanstead A on Sat 02 Dec 2006 at 8.45
Chingford Cricket Club Lost 42 runs

Match report Alfie Taylor came in to make his A team debut in place of the absent Greg Hales for the battle against champions, Wanstead A. We were playing with the red balls rather than the yellow, which usually give more help to the batters and only offer something additional to bowlers of pace. Wanstead had two bowlers of pace and the leggies of Taylor would probably be nullified. Wanstead batted first and fletcher collected a wicket in his first over thanks to a neat Whitfield catch. The opening overs saw few runs scored but Wanstead pushed the accelerator and by the halfway stage had built a good platform, scoring 57-1. This enabled two batters to retire, but the lower order kept the momentum going. Whitfield assisted them with some leg-side wides that were the only blemish to his otherwise tight bowling. At the 9 overs stage, Wanstead had reached 102-2 with O'Sullivan taking a catch off Taylor's seamers. Taylor had decided to forego attempting to spin the red ball with no seam. Chingford's bowlers came in for equal tap as another two Wanstead batters reached the retirement score. This meant that they had their top order retirees back at the crease for the last two overs. Their score of 142 was slightly above par for the red ball.
With only one regular first team bowler in the side, this is not the strongest Chingford bowling attack. However, there are 3 first team batters on show. Unfortunatly, one ofe these, O'Sullivan, having played out a maiden first over, was cleaned up soon after. Scoring runs was proving difficult against the Wanstead quicks. Whitfield had settled in only to attempt a run that was not the easiest. Shawyer is in good form at the moment and with Macgregor, these two took advantage of the second string bowling. They did not score slowly but after a slow start, the asking rate was going up and up and even with these two together, we did not look like reaching their score. Both retired and Shawyer made it back to the crease when fletcher was out. Wanstead are going to outclass many teams this season and we knew we had to endure this. We did well enough and if this form can be repeated, we should collect enough wins this season to finish in the top half of the table again. If we hope to do better, we need more of a cutting edge to our bowling.
