Match report The agreed format was a 45 overs per side match. A good early season work-out with all the bowlers evidencing some rustiness before getting some rhythm. South Hampstead posted a good total which was held in check at the end by Darren Ross who got three dismissals with his less than quick leg-spin. Paul Shawyer with three catches and two stumpings got his first 'five-fer' for the club in his first match at senior level and confirmed what everyone knew anyway, that he is a high quality wicket-keeper.

In reply, with South Hampstead bowling tightly, Chingford got off to a slow start but the openers put on 38 for the first wicket before Richard Alston came in and made everything look easy. He quickly blasted 40 including 3 sixes and a flurry of fours before being caught and bowled. This was the turning point of the match - another half hour of Richard and the game would have been won. Although Mike Lyon (19) and Jon Dyers (12) made contibutions only Darren Ross made a substantial score with the first 50 of the season but even he struggled with his timing on the early season wicket.

Overall, although disappointing to lose, this was an effective work-out as everyone got either a decent bowl or time at the crease which will benefit us in the games to come.

Man of the Match award was shared between Darren Ross and Paul Shawyer.
