Match report Chingford won the toss and put Horndon in to bat on a sunny day with a decent enough batting wicket and with a quick outfield. After early inroads were made by Mike Lyon and Steve Piper, Horndon recovered from c.50 for 4 to lose their fifth wicket at 115 (to a superb catch at first slip by Richard Alston). Although Andy Perrin and Richard MacGregor took wickets regularly the Horndon batsmen continued to play their shots effectively and were eventually all out for 203 off the last ball of the 52nd over.

Having taken three hours and ten minutes to bowl their overs Chingford were left with only an hour and a half and the last 20 overs to reach the target and secure promotion. Tight early bowling by Horndon restricted the scoring and built pressure on Chingford but Marc Fletcher and Paul Shawyer put on a good base of 73 for the first wicket before Fletcher was caught for 28. Richard Alston then followed for 11 just before the last hour to leave Chingford needing 115 off the last 20 overs with 8 wickets in hand. Darren Ross soon departed for 1 but excellent partnerships between Paul Shawyer (71) and Mike Lyon (42 not out) followed by Mike Lyon and Myles Joyce (an attacking 25) left 9 needed off the last two overs with 5 wickets in hand. Steve Piper went out to join Mike Lyon and between them took 7 off the penultimate over. It was then left to Mike Lyon to score the winning 2 runs off the first ball of the last over in the gathering gloom.

Another great team effort which saw Chingford record their 13th league win of the season and thus secure promotion. In addition the results from elsewhere in the division mean that Chingford are CHAMPIONS!!
