Match report Fletcher's match and in the words of Richie Mac, "the coming of age for Marc as a 2nd team bat". Chingford were playing Harold Wood who had already won promotion as champions. They did so without ever playing Chingford as the home fixture with Harold Wood had been abandoned. In the absence of Peter Joslin, Peters was called in as an emergency opener and he and Fletcher got the batting off to a good start, putting on over 40. Two quick wickets meant Fletch had to steady the ship with Rob Runciman. Having missed Rob for most of the season it was good to have him back as Chingford were without Alston and Ross. The best part of Fletcher's batting was the second half of his innings; with wickets falling regularly at the other end, he held the side together and deserved a 100 for his efforts. Had others batted better, he would have got one.
Chingford's seamers struggled to get much response from the pitch so it was up to the spinners. Like Runciman, Paul Adshead was playing his first match of the season and in partnership with MacGregor started to run through the middle order. However, Harold Wood had experienced batting lower down the order and demonstrated why they had become champions.
Chingford had equitted themselves well against the best team in the division with not the strongest of sides. A Chingford side including Runciman and Adshead and not missing the likes of Piper, Ross and Alston might have won the league themselves.
