Match report Chingford 2s won their second game of the season at premier division Colchester by a mammoth 108 runs in a 45-over game. After winning the toss and batting first, Chingford made a solid start with Marc Fletcher again impressing to top score with 45 runs. Matt O'Sullivan played well for his 30 runs as the opening pair put on 73. Boundaries were hard to come by on a slow outfield as many crisp shots pulled up short of the fence. Richard Alston (39) and James Runciman (44) accelerated the scoring as the last 20 overs yielded 116 runs. Rob Whitfield made a handy 20 not out on his second team debut with a challenging target of 200 runs being set.

Colchester looked dangerous early on with 16 runs coming off the first 3 overs. However, Nick Shawyer was bowling beautifully and a peach of a delivery gave him his first wicket. The ball left the batsmen late and flew to first slip where Mike Lyon, who despite looking like the Hunchback of Notre Dame due to injury, took a sharp catch low to his left. A brilliant piece of fielding by O'Sullivan saw Colchester lose their second wicket to a run out while Andy Perrin chipped in for the third. Shawyer continued with his impressive bowling and had the cordon interested the whole time, with the excitement getting to O'Sullivan as he threw the ball straight into the skipper's head attempting an ambitious run out. The highlight of the day came however, when Shawyer claimed a hatrick ( bowled, lbw, bowled ) which effectively ended the match as a contest. Finishing with 4-12 off 8 overs, Nick deservedly won the man of the match award. Richard Alston kept wicket superbly and finished the innings off in the 30th over with a stumping ( once he realised his appeal for caught behind was going to be turned down ).
